Bringing experienced intervention to your child

Target Speech and Language Therapy is an independent practice, with over 25 years’ experience in language acquisition and language systems, and more than 16 years' of this as direct children's Speech and Language Therapy.

Graduate qualifications have been obtained from the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.  Experience thereafter has been gained through extensive NHS practice throughout beautiful North West England including speech therapy Wirral, as well as in private practice, working with individuals as well as within clinics, nurseries and mainstream primary and secondary school settings.

With a commitment to continuous professional development, extra, specialised training has regularly been undertaken, for example from the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering and the Lidcombe Programme, to ensure that clinical knowledge is kept up-to-date, relevant and effective.

Who do we help?

Children between the ages of approximately 2 and 16 who experience difficulties with one or more of the following areas:

  • Speech sounds
  • Language development (understanding and/or use of)
  • Early language development
  • Stammering
  • Communication difficulties relating to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or ADHD*

* Please note that we are unable to diagnose ASC or ADHD and referrals for these pathways should be sought through your GP/health visitor/school nurse.  We can, however, provide information regarding your child's communication to support such referrals.

Where do we work?

Target Speech and Language Therapy works all across the Wirral.

Assessment and/or therapy will take place in your home, or it can be arranged within your child's nursery or education setting.  This minimises the disruption to your child's daily life.

Independent vs NHS?

Target Speech and Language Therapy loves the NHS, and we know your child might have already started their speech and language journey in the NHS system.

Much of our experience was gained working within NHS Trusts across North West England, and many of our friends and colleagues are still employees within children's services.

We understand your frustration of the long waiting lists at present, and honestly?  Your NHS therapist feels it too.

If your child has an NHS therapist already, great!  Our aim is not to compete with the NHS.  As an independent practice, we are here to collaborate with them when needed to ensure your child is getting the best support.

Whether you need us long or short-term in your child's speech and language journey, we are here for you.
