Why does your school need a speech and language therapist?

Some statistics...

Children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) experience difficulties in many areas of their lives, and this is particularly evident in the classroom.

According to a recent study by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, SLCN is now the primary area of need amongst children on the SEN register in schools in England.  At the time of writing, 3.2% of children had SLCN as their primary area of need, although further research has actually highlighted that 7.6% of children were identified as having DLD (Developmental Language Disorder), meaning there is an astonishing, huge discrepancy between identified needs and the many more children struggling under the radar in the classroom without support for their SLCN needs.

According to Speech and Language UK, 1.9 million children experience SLCN, which is an increase from 1.5 million only 2 years previously.

These numbers are not set to decrease anytime soon.

How can Target Speech and Language Therapy help your school?

You are the experts in teaching; allow us to be your expert in speech and language therapy.

Providing service-level, enhanced speech and language therapy to schools has been part of our daily work since graduating as therapists, and we have a good track record of supporting children's SLCN in mainstream schools.

Investing in us as the speech and language therapist for your school ensures an inclusive and collaborative approach for supporting your pupils in the classroom, so that each child has the opportunity to access the curriculum and reach their potential.

We allow you the time to teach your pupils, whilst we look after the speech and language intervention.  Together, we can aim to reduce the gap that all too often grows between children with SLCN and their peers.

Early intervention can reduce long-term difficulties, boost confidence, and enhance overall academic performance. Moreover, having a therapist on-site ensures that your pupils receive timely, consistent and reliable support for their needs.
